When we first arrived, Pujya Swamiji and Vivek realized that it was not right the way that most people were distributing supplies to the needy people – by standing on trucks and throwing supplies down as though the people were animals or beggars. Thus, in Project Hope, we either distributed supplies directly to the people’s homes/huts or we called them all in an orderly fashion to the site where they were handed the supplies personally, with love and dignity.
We distributed a full truck load of water to thousands of villagers on the first day. Following that we distributed numerous truckloads (thousands and thousands) of necessities – clothing, sheets, cooking supplies, candles, shoes, food supplies, milk, and more – to approximately 4000 villagers.
We only distributed BRAND NEW ITEMS. No used or old items of clothing or other supplies were distributed by us. It was very important to our entire team to treat the villagers with dignity.
